The demands on leaders in today’s uncertain, volatile and complex environment often exceed their current capacities. Advances in communications technology and the process of globalization, in particular, have changed patterns of communication and the flow of capital, the distribution of power, systems for innovation, and, consequently, the capabilities and patterns of behavior that constitute effective leadership. Executive coaching is an effective process to support talented leaders in their personal and professional development in this challenging environment.
Fénix works with senior leaders to develop their capacities for greater complex thinking, collaboration, adaptability, and innovation to successfully address their day-to-day challenges, as well as enhance their capacity to envision and shape a desirable future with others. We rely on multiple powerful tools and processes for leadership development. We begin by utilizing the Leadership Maturity Assesment Profile (Leadership MAP for short) as an assessment tool to provide feedback to leaders about their leadership capacity along several critical dimensions. The leader is then given the opportunity to reflect on and gain insight into their own patterns of behavior, the assumptions underlying them, and the impact these patterns are having on them and the environment around them. From these personal insights and self-knowledge, we facilitate a dialogue to help clients broaden their repertoire of perspectives, behaviors, and strategies from which they can draw to act more effectively in their professional and personal lives. This process helps clients to identify opportunities for learning in action in their particular work environment and offers support as clients experiment with change. All elements of the coaching relationship are based on trust and confidentiality between the associates of Fénix and the individual, honoring the highest ethical codes of conduct.
In today’s complex business environment, characterized by the development of ever more interrelated systems and societies, leaders must inspire, develop, support, and draw on the collective intelligence of working teams and larger groups of associates in order to realize organizational and multi-organizational strategies and goals. Frequently, formal leaders come to rely on informal who emerge to realize the objectives of specific projects or programs and to use and build the capacity for needed innovations. Such organizational environments require high level capacities for building trust and collaboration and the skills to more fully perceive and understand critical elements in the environment. Employing our approach, executive coaching has been demonstrated to support the development of these qualities and capacities essential for effective leadership in today’s complex world.
